Critical Thinking Vs Lateral Thinking

Edward de Bono
Lateral thinking is solving problems through an indirect and creative approach, using reasoning that is not immediately obvious and involving ideas that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic. The term was coined in 1967 by Edward de Bono.

According to de Bono, lateral thinking deliberately distances itself from standard perceptions of creativity as either “vertical” logic (the classic method for problem solving: working out the solution step-by-step from the given data) or “horizontal” imagination (having a thousand ideas but being unconcerned with the detailed implementation of them).

Critical thinking is primarily concerned with judging the true value of statements and seeking errors. Lateral thinking is more concerned with the movement value of statements and ideas. A person uses lateral thinking to move from one known idea to creating new ideas

Most School’s teaches us how to be critical thinkers but there is no way we can all be critical thinkers, what if we were Lateral thinkers, but had no clue Since we were never taught to figure out what kind of person we where until mid 20’s and for some people even later, The things schools and even colleges don’t teach you if it is not in your major. But I figure I will be the brains behind the things that school’s and colleges don’t teach and searched for myself to help impact the world more and found this Lateral Thinker inventor Edward de bono. With books he wrote, ‘Think before it’s to late’ and ” the Six thinking hats” and many more. in a news article we was asked this question

If you could have been born in a different century, which would it be?

If I was privileged, the 15th century, because people were doing much more thinking then, and had not become so smug and satisfied with what they thought they knew.
